Introduction

Welcome to a delightful journey of preparing your own Greek Shrimp Saganaki, a classic dish that marries succulent shrimp, rich tomatoes, and creamy feta cheese. Let’s get started!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes, or 5-6 fresh tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup of dry white wine
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 200 grams of Feta cheese, crumbled
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Preparation Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Meanwhile, heat olive oil over medium heat in a large oven-safe pan.
  2. Add garlic and onions  to the pan. Saute until they become softened and fragrant. This usually takes about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the shrimp and saute for 1-2 minutes on each side until they just begin to turn pink.
  4. Reduce to low heat and add the diced tomatoes, white wine, oregano, red pepper flakes, as well as salt and pepper. Let these flavors simmer for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Sprinkle the crumbled feta evenly over the top of the dish.
  6. Place the pan in your preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes until the feta is slightly melted and golden.
  7. Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
